Monica, California Grace Cheng, an accomplished business executive, is currently president and CEO of WISE Senior Services in Santa Monica, California. This community-based nonprofit, established in 1968, provides vital support services and programs to preserve the independence and dignity of older adults, and to prevent premature institutionalization wherever possible for seniors throughout the many communities within Los Angeles County. Ms. Cheng is also an executive business coach and university lecturer. She helps individuals and organizations assess and develop opportunities for professional growth and improved effectiveness. In her work, she focuses on distinguishing gaps in work performance and setting measurable goals that lead to improved attitudes and behaviors, stronger business and communication skills and a greater appreciation for workplace diversity. Ms. Cheng received her professional coaching certification through The Hudson Institute in Santa Barbara, Calif., an accredited program recognized by the International Coach Federation. She holds a masters degree (MSPH) in health planning and policy from the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) and a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of California-Riverside. She has served on the Adult Degree Program faculty at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and currently teaches graduate-level courses in the International Public Policy And Management Program at the University of Southern California.
With more than 20 years of distinguished communications and
marketing experience, Ms. Cheng attributes her accomplishments to her
ability to communicate, build teamwork and recognize the potential in
others, bringing forth the best in people.
Staff surveys consistently acknowledge Ms. Cheng for her
leadership, vision and commitment to excellence. Ms. Cheng's career
includes a highly successful term as vice president for Marketing and
Public Relations at Cedars-Sinai Health System in Los Angeles - the
largest, nonprofit, private, academic health system in the western
United States. Ms. Cheng
has also served as associate director of Business and Organizational
Development at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center.
President and CEO Leadership Education for Asian Pacifics (LEAP), Inc. Los Angeles, California J.D. speaks around the country on leadership, diversity, and Asian Pacific American issues. In nearly two decades of commitment to advancing the leadership potential of Asian Pacific Americans, LEAP has conducted over 1,000 workshops, reaching more than 100,000 people nationwide. In recent years, LEAP has developed collaborative partnerships with several corporations, offering customized leadership and cultural diversity training for such leading companies as IBM, Raytheon, Procter & Gamble, and Merrill Lynch.
President Asian Pacific American Legal Center of Southern California Los Angeles, California In June 1998, Stewart Kwoh was named a MacArthur Foundation Fellow. He is the first Asian American attorney and human rights activist to receive this highly prestigious recognition, often referred to as a "genius" grant. Stewart Kwoh is the President and Executive Director of the Asian Pacific American Legal Center of Southern California (APALC). Under Kwoh's leadership, the APALC has become the largest and most diverse legal assistance and civil rights organization targeting Asian Pacific Americans in the United States. He is also Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors for the National Asian Pacific American Legal Consortium (NAPALC), which was co-founded by APALC in 1991. The NAPALC is the country's first national pan Asian civil rights organization. Having grown up in Los Angeles, Stewart Kwoh has actively pursued interests in a wide range of community issues. He has been a steering committee member of the Coalition for Humane Immigration Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA) and has been appointed board member of the City of Los Angeles Charter Reform Commission. He was also on the executive committee of the Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council, which is a coalition of 50 human service programs. Stewart is very active with foundations, other philanthropic organizations, and nonprofit organization. He has been Chair of the Board of Directors (2000-2002) of The California Endowment, which is the largest health foundation in California. He is one of the first Asian Americans to chair the board of a large foundation in the U.S. He is a trustee of the Methodist Urban Foundation, The California Wellness Foundation, and The Fannie Mae Foundation. Due to his extensive involvement, Stewart Kwoh has received Lawyer of the Year recognition by the California Lawyer magazine in 1998, and was named one of the top 100 most influential Asian Americans of the decade by A magazine in 1999. He has been a recipient of many awards including: Mayor's Award, L.A. City Human Relations Commission, 1996; CORO Public Affairs Award 1993.
Lighthouse Leadership Consultant Houston Texas John arrived in the United States in 1975 at the age of seven. John received his Electrical Engineering Degree from Texas A&M University in College Station in 1991. He later completed his formal "education journey" with an MBA in 1996 and Ph.D. in 2002 from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. While balancing full time work for the last 14 years in the petrochemical industry, John opened his second company, Lighthouse Leadership Consultant in 2002. The company's mission is to assist individuals in improving their abilities to recognize their potential and bring focus to their life's goals. The company was able to organize "sold out" workshops such as Navigating Corporate Politics, Conversation Confidence, High Impact Presentations and EnFusion (connecting your vision to your present reality), just to name a few. John's audience ranges from high school students to corporate executives. His talent to communicate effectively through interactive workshops is the hallmark to the company's success. John says that his strength and joy in life comes from the wonderful relationship with his wife and young son.
Vice President and Technical Director Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) Raytheon Company El Segundo, California As vice president, Heidi is a member of the SAS Leadership Team. Ms. Shyu is responsible for reviewing all of the technologies within SAS and providing technical guidance and oversight in their development. Prior to her current position, Ms. Shyu was vice president of Unmanned and Reconnaissance Systems. Previously, Ms. Shyu was senior director of the Unmanned Combat Vehicle programs, as well as director of the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Program in the Air Combat and Strike Systems business unit of Raytheon's former Electronic Systems business. Ms. Shyu has served as director of JSF Integrated Radar/Electronic Warfare Sensors. She has been director of JSF Antenna Technologies and was responsible for the development of lightweight, low-cost, Tile Active Electronically Scanned Antenna technologies. Prior to that, she served as the laboratory manager for Electromagnetic Systems. At Litton Industries, Ms. Shyu was project manager of a Near Infrared Octane Analyzer commercial development project. At Grumman, she was the principal engineer for Joint STARS Self Defense Study and led the evaluation of electronic defense against air-to-air and surface-to-air infrared and RF threats. Ms. Shyu began her career at Hughes Aircraft Company, where she developed numerous electronic counter-countermeasures algorithms to detect, classify and counter various radio frequency jammers for F-15 and F/A-18 radar systems. Ms. Shyu has received Raytheon's Hero Award as well as the Excellence in Technology Award, in addition to the Hughes Fellowship, University of Toronto Fellowship, New Brunswick Post-Graduate Scholarship, Atlantic Provinces Inter-University Committee Scholarship, N.Myles Brown Science Award, University Special Undergraduate Scholarship and the 2004 CIE Asian-American Engineer of the Year Award. She is currently the Vice Chair of the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board and will become the Chairman in October 2005.
Ms. Shyu received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the
University of New Brunswick, a master's degree in mathematics from the
University of Toronto, and a second bachelor's degree and master's
degree in electrical engineering from UCLA. She has completed the
Hughes Aircraft Program Management Development Course, the Advanced
Leadership Program, UCLA Executive Management Course and the
University of Chicago Business Leadership Program.
Sanjeev Venkatesan Director of North Texas Software Raytheon Dallas, Texas As director of software, Sanjeev is a member of the NCS North Texas Engineering Leadership Team. Mr. Venkatesan is responsible for people, process, and technology of all software programs and technologies within North Texas NCS Engineering and providing guidance and oversight in their execution. Mr. Venkatesan was Sr. Principal Software Engineer for NCS. His management, technical and research expertise lies in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Electronics and Embedded Systems. His educational background includes knowledge representation, engineering mathematics, radar and navigation, antenna and wave propagation, and electronic digital circuits. After supporting development activities for the Ballistics Missile Defense program, Mr. Venkatesan supported software subcontract manager on the future Combat Systems, Ground Sensor Integrator (GSI) program.
He is a graduate of Raytheon Principal of Program Leadership
program and an instructor of the course.
He is also Raytheon Six Sigma Specialist and an student of 2006
Engineering Leadership Development Program. At Denver C3I
organization, as the software manager for the Ground Systems, he was
responsible for 250 software engineers, multiple internal and external
development and support programs and national and international
customers. At
TI/Raytheon, Mr. Venkatesan was the software manager for risk
reduction program for Follow On to TOW.
He also co-authored the proposal for the same.
Mr. Venkatesan was the software manager for the HTI
Engineering, Manufacturing and Design (EMD) program.
He was successful in transitioning this program from EMD to Low
Rate Intital Production (LRIP).
